Life has a funny way of leading you down new paths. Sometimes it takes being put in an uncomfortable situation to open your eyes to opportunities that are just waiting to be taken advantage of. It’s always been my dream to be a business owner. I’m not sure what about the entrepreneurial spirit that inspires me most, but it’s something I crave.
I’ve have visions of dress shops, makeup lines, consignment stores, and even an idea for a product that I’d love to make a reality. Other than the fact that I have NO IDEA where to start with product development, I just don’t have the guts to plunge my family into debt with a business loan and hope it all works out. It’s the way it has to be but it feels selfish to me. I know it’s not, but I just don’t have that much confidence in myself–yet.
So I am going to explore the idea of a small consulting business. Taking on some clients to assist with digital marketing. Ideally I will be doing more training and strategizing for these businesses than actual day-to-day tasks, but I’ll be happy to just be working with business owners. I feel this is a good way to start. Low to no overhead and the opportunity to make my own hours.
I am hoping the more I work with business owners the more inspired and confident I will become. For now, I am going to create a new opportunity and see if it leads to any more!
Hi Kaitlyn,
Congratulations on the new venture! I’m sure you’re going to do great! Making something happen will inevitably lead to new opportunities, at least I’ve always found this to be true. I took the plunge and quit my day job in ’06 to start my own marketing and PR consulting biz and I’ve never looked back. I’m on a bit of an extended maternity leave now. hehe But, I’ll be back at it before long. 🙂 It’s so nice to have connected with you! I look forwarding to getting to know you better:)

That’s so exciting! I’m a bit nervous to get started and keep things organized. It’s tough to stand firm behind your pricing and to ask for payment but I am working on policies and systems to help with the pressure. Looking forward to getting to know you too!
Great job!!! All it takes is you putting it into action to make any dream become a reality!
Congratulations! What has helped me in my venture is the Small Business Development Center. A lot of their resources are free and they can help you firm up our business plan.
Good luck to you!
Visiting from SITS Sharefest.
tks!
