It’s been just over two weeks since we welcomed our second baby girl into the world, Delilah Noelle. Life almost feels like a dream when I am snuggled up on the couch holding both of my babies. Sylvia has been excited from day one to meet her baby sister and hasn’t stopped wanting to hold her, kiss her, sing to her, and love her.
While I was pregnant we would ready stories to Sylvia about becoming a big sister and in one of the books the little girl sings lullabies to her baby brother. During Sylvie’s first meeting with her baby sister Lilah began to cry. Sylvie remembered us talking about how she will sing to her sister and quickly began serenading her with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I’m pretty sure my heart was going to explode at that exact moment. I feel so blessed to be able to say that my life is full of moments like this lately. Of course it is full of moments that test my patience and challenge me to be a better mom and help Sylvia understand and cope with the emotions that come along with suddenly sharing all of then attention she has grown used to having all to herself.
On December 16 I went into the hospital. I was in labor and had been having false labor for days. I was able to labor for a while in a large tub of bubbly hot water. Labor was much different this time around, my contractions were not progressing me so they opted to give me a very small dose of Pitocin to help move things along. After laboring for a while in the tub and experiencing the most powerful and painful contractions I’ve ever felt in my life I opted to give the epidural one more shot at the end. The moment that epidural kicked in definitely rivaled the moment Delilah was born as one of the best moments of my life. I was finally able to take a breath and prepare to meet my baby. After less than 2 minutes of pushing little Lilah was in my arms.
I am so grateful to my friend Amy of PhotoBaks Photography who was there to photograph the moment Lilah came into the world and the moment Sylvia met her baby sister for the first time. I wanted to share a few of the photos that I loved the most, though there were many more. I am so lucky to have these photos and I look forward to all that 2016 has in store for our growing family.
